Two Nepalese Jesuit alumni were among those who summited Everest this season, reaching the peak at 8.27 AM, on May 22. Sameer Jung Thapa, Class of 1998, and Dawa Sherpa, Class of 2000, both studied at the Jesuit St Xavier’s School, Jawalakhel.
Samir is a professional freelance photographer who has done extensive work for the World Wildlife Fund. Dawa is a professional mountaineer and director of a trekking agency who organizes much-needed clean-up expeditions at base camp, and on the trail to the summit.
They unfurled the flag with the arms of Nepal’s Jesuit alumni association, the G.A.A., after reaching the summit.
